Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música Clemens Schuldt direcção musical Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovski A tempestade Frank Bridge O mar - Antonín Dvořák Sinfonia n.º 9 The Blue Planet is the theme of this concert. The Shakespearean inspiration of Romanticism is embodied in a symphonic poem by Tchaikovsky which is full of drama and orchestral colour. Born in a coastal town in southern England, Frank Bridge wrote an orchestral work inspired by the sea and its mutability, as the work follows various states of the mass of water. Aerospatial science has allowed us to reach other places, but it has also provided us with unique images of the Earth. Thus, we have a New World to the sound of an emblematic work by Antonín Dvořák, which takes us back to the natural landscapes of the United States of America during a time when it was expanding westwards. Various ways to musically evoke our planet, as a call to be fully aware of just how much we can all do to prevent its announced destruction.
