Present-day ensemble music is the focus of this concert. The road network of the United States of America inspired the Swiss-German Michael Pelzel to write a sound journey through spaces, people, and buildings. Contrast, lively rhythm, and surprise dominate Chiffre II, a work written in 1983 that evokes the music of Edgard Varèse. The concert will end with the awaited Portuguese premiere of a new work by the Artist in Residence, the German Enno Poppe, following on from its world premiere at the Lucerne Festival.
