Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música Ustina Dubitsky direcção musical Victoire Bunel soprano Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Sinfonia n.º 24 em Sol menor, K.183 Gustav Mahler Kindertotenlieder - Gustav Mahler Blumine; Totenfeier (versão original de 1888) The figure of Gustav Mahler illuminates this concert. Friedrich Rückert’s poetry is embodied in an orchestral work with considerable emotion. Guided by the sure hand of Ustina Dubitsky and the beautiful voice of Victoire Bunel, the audience will journey to tragic and nostalgic places within Romanticism, emphasized by Mahler’s innovative orchestration. Blumine was part of the composer’s first symphony. However, a disastrous reception meant that it was withdrawn from the work. Totenfeier went the other way. Initially conceived as a symphonic poem, it was transformed by Mahler into the first movement of Symphony No. 2. Viennese Classicism came before Mahler’s works, expressively and markedly contrasting them with the fin-de-siècle canon. Symphony No. 24 was written by Mozart in his late Salzburg days and embodies the lightness and gallant expressiveness of the late 18th century.
