Antonio Vivaldi Gloria em Ré maior, RV589
Johann Sebastian Bach Magnificat
The late Baroque produced some of the best-known Christmas works. From the operatic and Venetian violin expressiveness of Antonio Vivaldi to the devout austerity of Johann Sebastian Bach, Christmas can be represented through very particular mechanisms. The Gloria has formed an integral part of the Catholic Mass since the Middle Ages. However, the use of operatic models and soloist voices is profoundly Baroque. The Magnificat is a hymn concerning the Annunciation. Lutheran Bach transformed a Latin text into a piece in which each verse is treated in a way that conveys the emotions associated with the text.
An unmissable and magnificent programme anticipating the Night of Peace.
