Portuguese music from the last decades is the star of this concert. From rhapsodies of well-known melodies to works with a modernist aesthetic, the programme shows the transformations which have taken place in composing for wind orchestras in Portugal. Contradança is a virtuosic concert based on traditional Portuguese dance and Chiaroscuro a journey through the timbres and colours of the group. The Portuguese Symphonic Band is joined by the clarinettist Carlos Ferreira, who has achieved a remarkable international career.
