Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa & Mário Laginha
A special guest in this concert of Banda Sinfónica, Mário Laginha is widely known for his artistic output in the area of jazz, but he never abandoned other musical languages. His Concerto for piano and orchestra is an important example of this ability to bring together seemingly different worlds, be it classical music, jazz or ethnic expressions. The piece is now presented with new arrangements for wind and percussion orchestra, with Laginha himself at the piano. The program begins with Blue Shades - a piece by Frank Ticheli influenced by the blues and which, as a tribute, imports some of the clichés of the big band era. Finally, a remarkable symphony of the repertoire for band, written by the Frenchman Paul Fauchet in 1926.
