  • Maestro Donato Renzetti's debut at Casa da Música marks the return of the great violinist Benjamin Schmid to Porto to interpret one of the concerts of his award-winning discography. Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari composed mostly operas that were not well-received in Italy but captivated the German audience. The instrumental pieces correspond to the beginning and end of his career, strongly marked by the First World War, with the refined humour of his operas being replaced by melancholy. After the intermission, a work that needs no introduction, especially among moviegoers: the music that Nino Rota wrote for the classic La Strada, written and directed by Fellini, a filmmaker with whom the composer established a strong artistic relationship. Rota was a student of Alfredo Casella, the composer who ends the program with a very distinct musical universe, denouncing his strong inclination towards the romantic language.
