  • “Imaginary Folklores” is an expression halfway between musicological rigor and poetic freedom. It means the creation of original music that is so imbued with the popular spirit that it seems to come directly from an anonymous rural or urban source. In this field, it is Fernando Lopes-Graça who dominates the entire Portuguese XX century, having collected thousands of melodies and used many of them – or their essence – in numerous works. Sérgio Azevedo inherited from this great master the interest in traditional music and its potential to be the basis for some of their concert pieces. It is this imaginary folklore, also present in Janáček’s work, that connects the pieces of this recital.
