Ferrucio Busoni is a fascinating figure of Modernism. A virtuoso pianist and outstanding teacher, several aesthetics coexist within his approach. A fascination with the 18th century marked his pianism, and Turandot’s commedia dell’arte was materialised in a suite and an opera. The great pianist Vadym Kholodenko will form part of the premiere in Portugal of Busoni’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, a work of great breath and pyrotechnic virtuosity.
