João Lencastre bateria, composição
Leo Genovese piano
Drew Gress contrabaixo
It is the holistic freedom of the classic jazz trio that is elevated here, according to the impressionist restlessness of João Lencastre, drummer and composer with two decades of profound commitment to music that took him to stages all over the world. With a life-span of 15 years, his project Communion has already recruited musicians like Bill Carrothers, David Binney or Thomas Morgan, and more recently Jacob Sacks and Eivind Opsvik – resulting in two albums released by Clean Feed and praised by national and international critics. In this new incarnation of the trio, Lencastre meets the scrupulous geometric expression of American bassist Drew Gress (who worked with the likes of Uri Caine, Dave Douglas, Marc Copland, John Abercrombie, Steve Lehman or Tim Berne) and the exploratory agility of Argentine pianist Leo Genovese (a regular presence in groups led by Esperanza Spalding, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette or Sara Serpa).
