Gustav Mahler Blumine; Totenfeier
Mahler’s musical genius masterfully makes full use of the orchestra. The inclusion of sounds from everyday life has transformed the way of approaching the symphony. This concert for families presents two of the composer’s remarkable works. Blumine is a movement from Symphony No. 1 withdrawn by Mahler after the work’s unsuccessful premiere in Budapest. Totenfeier began as a symphonic poem that the composer transformed and included in Symphony No. 2. A journey to the Austro-Hungarian Empire through two exciting scores by Mahler.
