Inseparable from the history of jazz, the clarinet has produced figures which have definitely left their mark on the genre – Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, and Artie Shaw, to mention just a few. For the first time, Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos is featuring the clarinet as the soloist in a programme offering some of the themes immortalized by the unique voice of this instrument. To play the role of virtuoso, the big band has invited one of the greatest international reference figures for the instrument, António Saiote. The award-winning clarinettist has had a long career as a performer, and has also established an important career as a pedagogue, building a prestigious class filled with students who have won awards across the globe.
