Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música · 19 Abr 2021
An essential reference of the cello, Marc Coppey is linked to Casa da Música this year through an artistic residency that includes several unmissable performances. This evening, he shares with Orquestra Sinfónica the interpretation of Elgar's Concerto, a landmark of the repertoire for cello that is also a deep and introspective reflection on World War I. The program begins on a lighter note, with four very different pieces inspired by Scottish folk songs and dances. The second part is entirely dedicated to Brahms’ Third Symphony, written when he was 50 years old, and revealing a composer in full control of his invention. The theme of the third movement became especially famous and gave rise to the most varied adaptations in the context of popular music.
