Salvatore Sciarrino is one of the fundamental names of contemporary Italian composition. This concert begins with one of his works, written in 1971, that is an example of how Baroque forms still inspire the creators of our time. The Remix Ensemble revisits a piece from its repertoire that requires a great soloist, and relies on Artist in Residence Marc Coppey for that. It is a tribute to the painter Max Beckmann, referencing his triptych The Temptation of St. Anthony. Here, the link to the past is in the painting itself, dated 1937 and with a format and theme closely related to the Middle Ages. One of the composer's concerns was to transpose the fragility of the lines and perspective to music. The evening ends with an orchestral version of the most important work Bruckner wrote for a chamber formation.
