  • The most appreciated formation in the history of chamber music is, without a doubt, the string quartet. Its capital: Vienna, Austria. Composers like Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven were there, the latter considered the great revolutionary of the genre. The Quarteto de Cordas de Matosinhos presents the ultimate Beethoven quartet, written five months before his death. In a France already preparing for other revolutions that would come with the dawn of the 20th century, Debussy sought to write a quartet in the best tradition of its kind. His harmonic innovations, however, gave a touch of modernity to this piece written alongside the Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, marking his passage to maturity and hinting to the first steps of the so-called musical Impressionism.
