    Gustav Mahler Sinfonia n.º 1

The symphony was a leading genre form in Romanticism, marked by its organicity. However, the model began to change at the end of the 19th century. Composers such as Gustav Mahler forged works of great breath and contrast that included elements from both classical and popular, religious and profane musical traditions within a strongly emotional atmosphere. A highly successful work in major concert halls, despite its poor reception at the time, his first symphony marks a turning point in which several worlds are set against each other in a tense narrative that intensifies and distorts the tropes of Romanticism.
