From Mozart to Schumann, there were major transformations in instruments, ensemble and musical genres. The concerto principle provided new possibilities for wind instruments within Classicism in Mozart’s work. The world of German drama is evident in the short, undulating Overture to the opera Genoveva. The density of writing and the permanent transformation of musical elements punctuate Schumann’s symphonism, with Symphony No. 2 being a prominent example of this.
