ORQUESTRA SINFÓNICA DO PORTO CASA DA MÚSICA CHRISTIAN ZACHARIAS direcção musical BENJAMIN SCHMID violino ROBERT SCHUMANN Concerto para violino e orquestra — ANTON BRUCKNER Sinfonia n.º 2 The only violin concerto written by Robert Schumann was dedicated to the great violinist Joseph Joachim. At the time, it was considered too difficult, and it was only premiered in 1937, by the Berlin Philharmonic, 81 years after the composer's death. Gradually, it conquered its space and is now seen as an essential part of Schumann's catalogue. To perform it, Orquestra Sinfónica relies on the direction of the acclaimed Christian Zacharias and the virtuoso Viennese violinist Benjamin Schmid. The evening ends with a monumental work by Bruckner, the Second Symphony, his first success with critics and the audience of Vienna.
